Today, Betsy DeVos stated in a speech at George Mason University that there would be a shift in the enforcement regarding the 2011 Dear Colleague letter on college campuses. The Dear Colleague letter has laid out strict guidelines for school administrations regarding the investigation of sexual assault cases. In her speech, DeVos described the letter as “increasingly elaborate and confusing” that harms both sexual assault survivors and the accused. Rescinding the letter will allow schools to not comply with Title IX, but will also cause a great injustice to sexual assault survivors. The Department of Education has allowed a public comment on the Dear Colleague letter. We encourage all members and non-members to take action and protect the rights of sexual assault survivors. ACTION ITEMS: - Use the hashtag #StopBetsy to use your voice to express why Title IX and the DCL is important to you. - Reach out to your school’s administration and demand that they support survivors by publicly reinforcing their commitment to follow the DCL guidelines. - Organize with other student organizations on campus and host a public discussion on Title IX and what we can do to further protect the rights of sexual assault victims. - Please visit It's On Us and Know Your IX to learn more about this issue and what you can do to prevent sexual assault or harassment on your campus. This week, Donald Trump made the cruel decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, putting hundreds of thousands of young immigrants at risk of being deported from their home and away from their eduction, careers, and loved ones. We stand in strong opposition to this decision, and will do everything in our power to support and stand alongside our immigrant and Dreamer communities. Join us at this rally to show solidarity with Dreamers and put pressure on members of Congress to quickly pass legislation that will allow DACA and TPS individuals to remain in the country.

(SPEAKERS AND SCHEDULE TBA. Contact Audrey Widner or eboard@demsucf.com if you are someone directly affected or with a stake in this issue who is interested speaking or helping organize this event.)
